ABSTRACT
Sensing technologies have been applied to ACC algorithms to create a safe and useful cruise control. As technology develops it is important to have current information concerning the reliability, feasibility, and cost of these technologies. Using laser stacks, the power of the laser is greatly increased and provides a strong signal for the ACC system, but Laser Sensing is not reliable in adverse weather conditions. Visual Based Sensing is becoming a more reliable sensing technology but is still being prototyped. Unlike Laser Sensing, Radar Sensing is reliable in all weather conditions, and can be cost effective when using a low frequency signal that is amplified and multiplied to create a 76GHz signal.
